Inspect/repair bowsprit adjuster line and shock cord retrieval system.Inspect/tighten Edson pedestal wheel shaft nut to eliminate play. Inspect shaft keys and wheel hub for wear.See J/109 Owners Manual -- page 18 Steering System
Deck
Rig a shackle on the port (maybe starboard side too) stanchion base adjacent to the mast to temporarily secure spinnaker halyard and chute in its bag before the hoist. A trip line enables the mast man to quickly release the shackle just before jumping hoist (see J/109.org Rigging Tips - page 2) Install a reverse cam cleat on mast to secure halyard tail as it is jumped. Pit man/trimmer can overhaul and secure halyard tail through the Spinlock stopper on cabin top later. Once the Spinlock stopper is made, clear the mast cleat for the next drop. Add black tape to mark jib deck track positions on port and starboard cabin sides for; Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3 (See legend below) Prepare a 20' of ¼" tack line as a retrieving line for fresh breeze take downs. Stow this take down tack line in the forepeak for quick access.
Sail handling
When in Mode 1, after spinnaker is launched, the bowman quickly pulls in the jib furling line to enable the spinnaker to fill faster.
Quickly furling the jib may be optional in Modes 2 and 3 when having the jib blanket the spinnaker briefly may be advantageous. Pit man/trimmer overhauls and secures the furling line tail through its usual cam cleat later when it's convenient.
Flake sheet and halyards below through the companion way and port holes, and into deck bags to prep for the next hoist, takedown, sail change, etc. Practice Tack Line Takedown (See North Sails J/109 Tack Line Drop video)
