Two protests were filed due to collisions involving four competing yachts in the 2024 Vineyard Race.
As of September 08, 2024, the status of one of those protests remains Open. Pending resolution of that protest Space Monkey's fleet line honors win (photo above) is apparently in limbo, a full week after the conclusion of the event.
Text of both protests as filed on Yachtscoring.com (preliminary scores appear in the PDF below):
  1. While Space Monkey was Windward Boat, and in the act of Keeping Clear, Summer Storm 52 altered course and collided with the port aft quarter of Space Monkey, causing significant damage to Summer Storm. No action from SM could have avoided this contact, as her helm was already over, in the act of Keeping Clear. Summer Storm 52 chose to alter course while Space Monkey was already turning away, making it impossible to turn any more without swinging her quarter toward SS52. This breaks Rule16.1, failing to give the Keep Clear boat room to keep clear". As this voluntary action resulted in immediate contact and damage to SS52, this also breaks Rule 14, failing to avoid contact if reasonably possible. Status: Open

  1. On Friday August 30, 2024 at approximately 5:20pm just east of Port Jefferson Harbor, Jules on starboard tack and Ohana on port tack collided causing damage to both vessels USSailing Judge ruling: Ohana broke Rule 10 and 14. Jules broke Rule 14 and is exonerated. Status: Closed
