• Class A and Class B boats on the left side of the upwind legs were pushed to weather by the strong flooding current, and at the same time gained apparent wind speed.
  • Participant 2 had a good start but it was rolled by the larger Pincoya soon afterward and it tacked to the right for clear air.
  • Pincoya continued toward the left side of the beat with more boat speed and better pointing angle than Tenacity, Speck, Sunshine Daydream and Cathexis.
  • Participant 2 held far to the right side of the beat sailing down current in less apparent wind before tacking for the mark, and it was a distant last around the first mark.

  • Boats on the right side of the runs had flooding current pushing them toward the leeward mark while also being able to sail higher, faster downwind angles without sailing significantly greater distance.
  • Class A boats jibing to the left side of the downwind legs lost distance to boats on the right.
  • For instance, at the top of the first 1.5 NM leg Cathexis trailed third place Speck by some 30 boat lengths.
  • On its run Speck split from lead boats Pincoya and Tenacity by jibing to the left side of that downwind leg.
  • Cathexis rounded the upwind mark still 30 boat lengths behind Speck, but held to the right side of the run in the direction of Pincoya and Tenacity.
  • At the bottom of the downwind leg Cathexis had gained back the 30 boat lengths and then some on Speck, rounding the leeward mark well ahead of Speck.
